Simon Acres Recruitment are seeking a Commercial Director to join a long standing and prestigious company based in Hertfordshire. Due to expansion, we are looking for an ambitious individual to grow and take the business further. 

As a Commercial Director your main duty will be to lead and develop the  purchasing, logistics [including depots], internal sales, human resources, IT and finance departments to ensure that they operate as smoothly and efficiently as possible.  As your role will be crucial to our success, we are expecting you to have an entrepreneurial and optimistic mindset and serve as an example to all your team members.  You will need excellent organisational abilities and strong leadership skills.   

Key duties and responsibilities:

  •       Lead the day-to-day operations of the allocated departments
  •       Develop and implement best practice policies and procedures to improve business operations
  •       Review existing systems and implement necessary improvements as and when required
  •       Develop, implement and maintain KPIs and weekly/monthly reports, [for example -            what stock value is out with each customer on rental, how many shipments from each depot, what are our stock levels, how many incoming orders compared to last year etc, etc]
  •       Implement productivity measures to improve business operations
  •       Oversee and ensure that the methods and procedures used comply with ISO 9001 and the company’s QMS system
  •       Appraise staff annually, evaluate performance, assess knowledge skills, deal with and resolve problems arising
  •       Provide leadership to create an environment that motivates people, communicating effectively and ensuring that the employees are fully aware of what is expected of them and also encourage and recognise their efforts
  •       Analyse, review, monitor and then implement any necessary changes to the company’s Health & Safety policy, and Staff Hand-Book procedures - including any additional risk assessments, to ensure they remain relevant and up to date
  •       Responsible for applying new regulations/laws
  •       Assist in setting financial targets and budget development and monitoring



  •       Extensive/proven experience as in operations/HR/commercial type management at a senior level or be in an existing director or other relevant role
  •       Financial and negotiation skills
  •       Solid knowledge of performance reporting and financial/budgeting processes
  •       A strategic mindset and general awareness
  •       Excellent organisational and leadership skills
  •       Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiating abilities required for dealing with difficult circumstances/people, so knowledge/experience of HR procedures will be required
  •       Excellent time management and decision-making skills
  •       Computer literate, commercially competent and confident in developing ERP systems
  •       Degree educated - BSc/BA in business administration, finance or relevant field; MSc/MA is a plus

  •       Ability to control and motivate all levels of staff from yard to management
